Our latest update on LL4 STARBULK Bulkers-centric DT by GLM partners

The LL4 DT application offers an innovative approach by seamlessly integrating e-robotic data acquisition and 3D reconstruction in a digital twin of the hull structure. This enables a comprehensive and immersive visualization of the vessel’s overall structure and condition, thereby providing a basis for informed and optimal maintenance and/or repair decisions. The LL4 is compromised by two use cases, the first one (global one) is about monitoring and measuring the biofouling development in underwater body of the ship, and the second one (specific use case) is about the cleanliness optimization of cargo holds using appropriate robotic platform.

In the same respect, the integration and correlation of data related to performance as coming from engine room monitoring and those coming from the outer hull will provides a holistic DT of the sailing ship. The state-of-the-art sensor system onboard the vessel comprises a vast network of precision pressure and temperature sensors, strategically placed to monitor the Main Engine, Generators, and other critical machinery. These sensors feed data into the Engine Room’s centralized alarm and monitoring system, providing an overview of the ship’s vital performance indicators. With the ability to instantly detect even subtle changes in the machinery’s operation, the system ensures that any potential issues are swiftly addressed, ensuring the vessel’s smooth and safe operation. The integration and correlation of data related to performance as coming from engine room monitoring and those coming from the outer hull will provides a holistic DT of the sailing ship.

As part of LL4, a comprehensive evaluation was conducted in collaboration with the operator, Starbulk Shipping Company, with the aim of assessing the energy projection and consumption of their fleet of vessels. The results of the analysis indicated the importance of regularly monitoring and addressing both the biofouling of the ships and the cargo holds, to optimize energy usage.
