Short introduction of partner, why do they participate in DT4GS and why is DT4GS important for RINA-S.

RINA is a global corporation that provides services across the Energy, Marine, Certification, Transport & Infrastructure and Industry sectors through a global network of 200 offices in 70 countries; it employs more than 4,600 people around the world, committed to simplify complexities with a focus on energy transition, ESG and digitalization.

Speaking about marine sector, ship classification has been at the core of the RINA business since its inception. Today, this business sector represents 26% of the RINA’s turnover, making it one of the top ranking marine classification societies in the world. RINA is a founding member of the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS), formed in 1968, and it is authorized to carry out surveys on board by 116 international Flag Authorities.

RINA-S is the Operative Company of RINA specialized in third-party certification (as ship classification). RINA-S integrated services for the complete shipping cycle including design, building, shipyard management, inspection and testing of materials / components and surveys to maintain the class are used by merchant ships, ferries, ro-ro, yachts, cruise ships, naval vessels and offshore vessels.

Participating in DT4GS, as in many other R&D projects in which RINA-S is involved, allow RINA-S to acquire competence on technology innovations so to be more effective and competitive in providing its services in a wider scope of intervention.

In this project, RINA has the opportunity to integrate its energy, digital and naval expertise to help create a Digital Twin to develop and demonstrate low-emission solutions for all major classes of ships and naval services. This will have an impact on the European Commision objectives to address climate change.
